Jerry John Rawlings! His death, our loss.

Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo has announced the death of the first President of the 4th Republic, H.E. Jerry John Rawlings. 
In a statement from his office, President Akufo-Addo said:
"This tragic death occurred at 10:10 am on Thursday, 12th November 2020, at the Korie-Bu Teaching Hospital, where the former President was receiving treatment, after a short illness.
  I convey the profound sympathies of Government and the people of Ghana to his wife, the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the children, and family of the late President, in these difficult times."
Following the President's instructions, Institutions are flying Ghana's national flags in all parts of the country at half-mast to last for a week.
President Akufo-Addo also declared seven days of national mourning starting from Friday, 13th November to Friday, 20th November 2020, in honour of the departed former leader held in high esteem by many Ghanaians and people across the globe for his sterling and pragmatic leadership. Former President Rawlings was a focused and proactive leader who was passionate about the processes behind any initiative.

President Akufo-Addo described him aptly when he said; "A great tree has fallen, and Ghana is poorer for this loss." Rawlings was 73.
